Webpage Review Checklist

The Webpage Review Checklist has been designed to assist you in optimising your webpages for search engines.

Ask yourself the following questions:

6 Essential Questions:

1. Does the page have a clear purpose? For example, does the home page help people to understand what your website is about? Does each category page provide relevant information? Does a product page close a sale?

2. Have you done the necessary keyword research to optimize your content? For example, do you have at least three high demand keywords/keyword phrases to focus your content on?

3. Does your title tag include your primary keyword or keyword phrase? This is absolutely essential. For extra insurance you can also strive to include your secondary keyword phrase in the title tag if possible. However, always keep it real. The spiders don't like keyword stuffing!

4. Does your description tag include both your primary and secondary keyword phrases for the page? It is important to write your description tag in good English and to limit it to around 200 characters. Remember: your tag description often doubles as the summary of the first paragraph of your copy.

5. Do you have plenty of keyword rich sub-headings that help people scan your copy and provide keyword information for the spiders?

6. Have you included your keywords in your body copy and in any links that you use? Remember, as important as it is to please the search engines, you also have to write persuasively for your human visitors. After all, they're the ones who need to be convinced you're trustworthy enough to invest in.

Optimizing your content as you build your webpages is the first step in getting a real business return from your investment in keyword research. Use the Webpage Review Checklist for each one of your pages, especially at the beginning stages of building your website. It will soon become second nature!
